With the completion of six versions spanning 28 years, INSITE has made public the INSITE Archive—documenting over 250 commissioned works, public programs, and publications—on a bilingual website that also serves as a platform to track INSITE’s current and future initiatives. https://insiteart.org/
Additionally, INSITE has launched the INSITE Journal, a quarterly online publication focused on the intersection of art, spatial practices, and the public sphere. The first issue, Performing Resilience, includes contributions by guest writers Lucía Sanromán, Chris Sharp, Simon Sheikh and Sandra Pinardi, and features writing from inSITE2000 by cultural geographer David Harvey. Additionally, it focuses on works realized for different editions of INSITE by artists Ulf Rollof, Michael Schnorr, Betsabeé Romero, Nari Ward, and Johnny Coleman. The Journal is edited by INSITE’s Director of Curatorial Projects, Andrea Torreblanca. https://insiteart.org/insite-journal.
Conceptual planning and the development of a curatorial structure for the seventh version of INSITE will begin in early 2020. Throughout the year, INSITE will convene groups of practitioners (artists, curators, writers, and others) to work with the team in the San Diego/Tijuana region—imagining what form the next version might take in light of INSITE’s history and the realities/exigencies of cultural practice today. Public programs, based in large part on the thematic structure of the quarterly issues of the INSITE Journal, will take place at various venues throughout the border region.
The second issue of the INSITE Journal, Social Beings, will be launched in late March 2020.
