The Best Most Useless Dress by Claudia La Rocco
Paper book available at ARTBOOK | DAP; ebook on Apple iBooks and Amazon Kindle
“Inquiry and seduction stroll hand in hand through these pages. Insubordinate, sexy, ravenously curious.”
–Elizabeth Robinson
Widely known as an incisive critic for The New York Times and Artforum, Claudia La Rocco is also a poet and performer whose hybrid texts are as mercurial and imaginative as her criticism. The Best Most Useless Dress reveals the breadth and depth of La Rocco’s work, encompassing a decade’s worth of poetry, essays, performance texts and reviews. These writings explore how movement and rhythm—in time, through space, across bodies, on the page—engender experience itself. The book includes an introduction by poet Elizabeth Robinson. The book is also illustrated with La Rocco’s photographs and notes from her collaborative work with choreographers. The enhanced ebook for Apple includes audio and video that La Rocco has made especially for the book.
Is I, I? by Stéphanie Rosianu
Available now on Apple iBooks
Is I, I? is the first book by Swiss-based writer and artist Stéphanie Rosianu. It consists of a cascading stream of words, phrases, and texts that weave in and out of different modes of perception. Designed like a digital scroll, Is I, I? reflects a sensibility at home with the ever-changing digital landscape today, and how it influences the very nature of our subjectivity. Or in the words of Rosianu herself: “Who is the author behind a list of artists names, things to check, bills to pay, Google Translate or poems? Where stops the composition? The relationship between lists and poems reveals a timeline. Dates and words create another dialogue. Maybe the only trace of the daily life of the author. As the words of the poems collide and flow next to the list of names, another text is generated by the authority of google translate. Is I, I? has to be scrolled in order to accurate your reading experience.”
Between Artists: by Amy Sillman and Gregg Bordowitz
Available now on Apple iBooks and Amazon Kindle
Between Artists: by Silvia Kolbowski and Walid Raad
Available now on Apple iBooks and Amazon Kindle
Between Artists is an ongoing series of books edited by Alejandro Cesarco and originally published by A.R.T. Press. They are based on artist to artist conversations. The conversation format permits a thorough and at the same time informal investigation of the artists’ practice and the larger social issues that inform it. By virtue of their clarity, personal focus, affordability, and innovative method of distribution, these books make possible the presentation of contemporary artists and their work to a wide readership. Since the first Between Artists books were released in 2005, they have gained a cult following, and a number of them have been out of print. Badlands Unlimited, in association with A.R.T. Press, is pleased to reissue Between Artists as ebooks for a new generation of readers.
About Amy Sillman and Gregg Bordowitz
Between December 2006 and January 2007, Sillman and Bordowitz recorded approximately ten hours of conversation on topics ranging from art and philosophy to their personal histories and friendship. The resulting publication follows the chronology of their discussions from beginning to end. The transcript starts where they consider the beliefs underlying their respective endeavors, what art can and cannot accomplish. This ebook contains a new postscript created by Sillman and Bordowitz in the summer of 2014.
About Silvia Kolbowski and Walid Raad
Inadvertently situated during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in the summer of 2006, this epistolary dialogue between the two artists traces one artist’s evacuation from Lebanon, and one artist’s experience of the war through texts and images. Interwoven are discussions about aesthetic methodology, representations of war and its aftermath, and the psychical stakes of the politics of war and art.
