The Ruskin School of Art and St Anne’s College seek to appoint a practice-led researcher (artist and/or curator) of international standing with a commensurate history of exhibition and publication, and with senior managerial experience within an arts education environment. The area of expertise is open within practice-led contemporary art research.
The successful candidate will be appointed to an Associate Professorship or full Professorship in Fine Art, and to a tutorial fellowship at St Anne’s College. They will also assume the responsibility of Head of the Ruskin School of Art for a period of 3 years, in the first instance, from the start of appointment. They will need to be able to articulate a clear and ambitious vision for securing the continued success, and furthering the development, of an art school within the context of a collegiate university.
The appointee will join the school at a particularly exciting moment. The Ruskin will celebrate, in 2021, the 150th anniversary of its foundation, providing opportunities for a series of planned events further raising the School’s profile within and beyond the University. It also expects to be centrally involved in the planning and realisation of the cultural activities which will form a core component of the new Stephen A Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, scheduled to open in 2024. As Head of School, the appointee will be play a central role in the development of plans for the new centre to serve as a catalyst for the arts, through contributing to the conceptualisation and realisation of exhibition and performance spaces and events within the building.
As a trustee of the College, the appointee will participate in College governance and administration, take part in community life, act as Personal Tutor to undergraduates and as College Advisor to graduates, take part in the admissions process, and contribute to outreach and widening participation initiatives.
Combined University and College Salary: GBP 48,114–64,605 p.a., plus substantial additional benefits including a housing allowance of GBP 10,026 p.a. An additional allowance of GBP 2,804 p.a. would be made upon award of the title of Professor.
