Master Media Design creates new tools and creative processes for graphic designers and interaction designers. Our programme focuses on two subjects of research. The first subject is the importance of AI in the contemporary cultures of design and how designers can help investigating machine agencies. The second subject is based on the links between nature and technologies. In the context of the dual imperative to make a “digital” and ecological transition in a crisis environment, designers are in a peculiar position. While their work frequently involves minimizing the carbon footprint of digital activities, there are many other ways to address the links between technologies and the environment in designers’ practices.

We address the technological, environmental and societal challenges generated by artificial intelligence and new interfaces through seminars, workshops and hands-on prototyping. Projects produced range from hybrid interfaces, smart devices, to video games and interactive experiences. We teach a wide range of techniques with a critical approach from virtual reality, augmented and mixed reality, machine learning, creative programming and electronics. Some of the workshops take place in collaboration with professionals from different industries. Theoretical and introductory seminars to research methods complement this programme. At the end of the programme our students master the practical, playful, critical as well as experimental aspects of the profession of interaction designer.

Applications in Master Media Design for September 2020 are open until April 3, 2020.

All information regarding the applications process can be found on HEAD – Genève’s website. Our Master programme collaborates with students with a background in interaction design, product design, engineering and social studies.
