A newly created position is available for an associate curator with particular expertise in the field of contemporary art. This curator will join the Whitney during a crucial moment in the Museum’s history, as it prepares for the inauguration of its new Renzo Piano-designed building and the accompanying expansion of its program. Reporting to the Associate Director of Programs, the incumbent will contribute to the advancement of the Museum’s exhibition schedule, focusing primarily on art of the past 20 years. Among other responsibilities, he/she will propose large- and small-scale exhibitions and manage all phases of these projects; write scholarly publications and texts; assist with the development and growth of the collection, including acquisitions across media; participate in fundraising and cultivation efforts; consult on press and marketing initiatives; and represent the Museum by delivering lectures, participating in symposia, and in other ways that further the mission of the institution.
Job requirements include: M.A. in art history preferred; strong knowledge of 20th- and 21st-century art, with expertise in international art of the past 20 years; at least five years of experience curating exhibitions, demonstrating aptitude as well as administrative and managerial skills; scholarship in the field of modern and contemporary art; a track record of programming and publications.
