Call for submissions for Open Platform
Application deadline: 12pm (HKT), 23 March 2014
Asia Art Archive
Open Platform is an integral part of Asia Art Archive’s endeavor to enable new thinking in the field of recent art in Asia, and its inaugural edition was launched last year (please see here). AAA now invites cultural practitioners from all disciplines to submit proposals for Open Platform at Art Basel in Hong Kong in May 2014. Open Platform enables selected researchers, curators, writers, artists, students, academics, and art organisations to leverage the Archive’s network to host a series of ‘meetings without walls’ at AAA’s booth at Art Basel to further their ongoing projects, catalyse new ones, or simply make connections.
Topics of discussion should reference the concerns of the Archive and its research interests (please see the list below for a non-exhaustive list of such topics) and applicants are encouraged to contribute material to enrich AAA’s collection, a free resource supporting the study of contemporary art in Asia.
AAA will provide coffee and tea to fuel discussions, and applicants may request the use of AAA’s contacts to reach out to people they wish to invite. Although applicants are free to invite AAA staff, there is no obligation to do so. Meetings will not be recorded. Applicants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.
Some key topics relating to AAA’s ongoing projects and concerns include (in alphabetical order):
Affinities, alternative art spaces, the archive/the document, art and literature, art writing, chronology, exhibition histories, geographies, institutions, keywords, leftist, mapping, micro-narratives, oral history, patronage, pedagogy, performance art, periodicals, portals, the vernacular
But we like surprises.
Application guidelines
Please submit:
–Proposal outlining the topic of your meeting (no more than one A4 page written in English).
–Participant list—divided between those you know and up to three people you need AAA’s assistance to reach. AAA will make its best effort to initiate the conversation.

Deadline: 12pm (HKT), 23 March 2014
Successful applicants will be contacted via email by the end of March and announced on AAA’s website in the beginning of April. Each meeting will be allocated a 90-minute slot during the course of Art Basel in Hong Kong (15–18 May).
