Sierra Nevada University (SNU)’s low residency MFA-IA program just completed our most recent winter residency.

This winter’s MFA-IA residency 2020 featured an exhibition by thesis students titled, “Dwelling,” in our Tahoe Gallery, showcasing the work of Megan Ping, Dwayne Bandy, and Scott McPheeters. A combination of installation, painting, and performance, the work in this show highlights the interdisciplinary strategies and concerns our MFA-IA graduates are known for. In addition to the thesis exhibition, 3rd residency student, Alejandra Rubio, created an installation for her Midway Conversation course that took place inside two separate canvas tents on SNU’s main campus. Within each tent, Alex installed work consisting of projected images, screen-printed pillows, and printed portraits, buried in dirt. The last night of the residency featured an open house where the public was invited to visit all of these works as well as different installations throughout the campus made by all students within the program.

There are still spots available to start in summer 2020. Please get in touch with Julia Schwadron immediately should you have an interest in attending this summer.

Priority deadline for summer 2020 residency has been extended to February 28, 2020. Apply here.

The MFA-Interdisciplinary Arts Program is low-residency, and consists of two intensive ten-day, on-campus residencies during summer and winter sessions over the course of two and a half years. During the fall and spring semesters, students work in their home studios and continue relationships with faculty mentors and fellow colleagues remotely through online seminars and other points of contact.

Sierra Nevada University is a small, liberal arts college, located three blocks from Lake Tahoe, within a national forest, on an easily accessible campus in Incline Village, NV. The low-residency MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts is a locus for creative problem solving, fostered by creative thinking with an emphasis on community. The experience and exploration of embodied place is a central element of this distinctive program, encouraging students’ multi-dimensional relationship with their environment both in the Tahoe Basin and within their own communities.
