Hosted by Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City as a way to delve into the larger network of multidisciplinary practice in the Americas, the 89plus Americas Marathon will take place during Zona Maco México Arte Contemporáneo and will bring emerging practitioners from all disciplines together with world-renowned artists and thinkers.
This project is inspired by the Serpentine Gallery’s annual Marathon series—an ambitious festival of ideas that takes place in London and brings together the fields of art, culture, science and technology. The upcoming 89plus Americas Marathon in Mexico City will unite over 30 participants from around the world working in a wide range of disciplines, and will focus on the Americas while addressing issues of self-construction and activism.
The 89plus Americas Marathon is co-curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Simon Castets.
About 89plus
89plus is a long-term, international, multiplatform research project cofounded by Simon Castets and Hans Ulrich Obrist that investigates the generation of innovators born in or after 1989. Without forecasting artistic trends or predicting future creation, 89plus manifests itself through panels, books, periodicals and exhibitions, bringing together individuals from a generation whose voices are only starting to be heard, yet which accounts for almost half of the world’s population.
The 89plus Americas Marathon is made possible due to the generous support of Fundación Alumnos47, Colección Isabel y Agustin Coppel (CIAC) and Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, a joint venture project working to promote cultural development through multidisciplinary practice in the arts.
