The 2020 Summer Academy is reduced to two weeks due to the current circumstances, which will not allow all teachers and potential students (25% from outside Europe) to come to Salzburg in the summer. In addition, hygiene regulations demand reduced numbers in each classroom. Therefore, for the first time in its history, the Summer Academy also offers classes exclusively online, for art forms which exist digitally and in social media (photography, video) as well as for theoretical courses. Classic artistic media such as painting, sculpture, etc. will be held on site and as hybrid formats, with the possibility for some students to participate from afar online.

About the 2020 Summer Academy Programme: New Horizons
The programme of the 2020 Summer Academy aims to tackle fundamental questions of art, text and curatorial production. Under the motto New Horizons, the 2020 course programme seeks new possibilities for the creative artist, curator or writer to define their own position in the world in which they live. How, in times of Covid19, shocking consequences of climate change and unequal distribution of resources, can new horizons be conquered in each respective work?

Why study at Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts?
The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1953 by Oskar Kokoschka as the “School of Vision”, in Hohensalzburg Fortress, is the oldest of its kind in Europe. It offers:
–open application to anyone interested
–a unique opportunity to study with outstanding artists/curators/writers who mostly don’t hold a professorship elsewhere
–the possibility to devote yourselves exclusively to reflecting on and producing art
–individual attention, one-on-one critiques as well as group discussions
–a fantastic atmosphere in the ancient locations
–for the first time, online classes for theory, video and photography, and performance
