Asia Art Archive (AAA), an independent non-profit documentation, research, and ideas platform for contemporary art, announces today that the 2013 AAA Annual Fundraiser Auction preview exhibition will take place from 21 to 25 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, followed by this year’s fundraiser auction and dinner on Saturday 30 November at The China Club. This year, AAA is pleased to announce support from lead sponsor Van Cleef & Arpels.
Founded in 2000, AAA is widely regarded as one of the most valuable and dynamic public collections of material on the recent history of art from Asia. AAA is dedicated to making the material in its collection accessible to a worldwide audience. With over 45,000 records accessible free of charge from its physical space in Hong Kong and searchable via the Collection Online, the material is continuously activated through extensive educational and public programmes.
The Annual Fundraiser Auction serves as a major source of support for AAA’s operations, research, and educational programmes. This year, AAA continues to raise funds to extend its global reach, expanding the educational potential of the archive and contributing to the way worldwide audiences learn about contemporary art.
Auction highlights
In partnership with Christie’s, one of the leading auction houses in Asia, AAA is pleased to present 75 works of art generously donated by local and international galleries and artists. Auction highlights include contemporary ink works by Taiwanese artist Liu Guosong (Liu Kuo-sung), Hong Kong artists Leung Kui Ting, Fung Ming Chip, and Lin Xue, a ballpoint pen on paper work referencing traditional Asian ink painting by Korean artist Il Lee, and an impressive oil painting produced exclusively for AAA’s Fundraiser Auction by internationally recognised artist Aya Takano. Additionally included are installations and conceptual photographs donated by prominent contemporary Hong Kong artists such as Lee Kit, Lam Tung Pang, and Pak Sheung Chuen, as well as pieces by internationally renowned artists Eddie Peake and Jean-Michel Othoniel.
On Saturday 23 November, AAA is pleased to present Fei Dawei in conversation with AAA senior researcher Anthony Yung on curating overseas contemporary Chinese art exhibitions in the 1990s, as part of the Christie’s Art Forum Lecture series. The talk is an extension of the partnership between AAA and Christie’s for this year’s fundraiser, to be announced on Wednesday 20 November, followed by a detailed introduction of artworks.
