A Charity Auction to Combat the Epidemic
March 2–5, 2020
It’s the beginning of 2020, and we have entered a particularly difficult time. This sudden outbreak of the new coronavirus has sent the whole China into a state of emergency. Behind each of the growing number of confirmed cases in the epidemic are the fragile and helpless lives of individuals. In the face of this epidemic, we salute those engaging in the medical battles that continue to be waged on the front lines, their courageous efforts to combat the virus put the rest of us in a safer position. At this grave moment, when the well-being of the entire nation is in peril, any small effort has the potential to become a spark in the fire to burn out this epidemic, and the art world ought to step up to the plate and shoulder such responsibility. We hope to contribute our obligations through art so that we might show that art has the power to inspire courage in this time of great grief, and sprout the yearning for a better life in a period of great apprehension.
By Standing Together In Solidarity, We Set A Course for A Brighter Tomorrow
In this grave hour, we ask that you endow us with the sense that humanity is a tightly interconnected collective. HOW Art Museum and HOW Store hope to undertake this mission, congregating the forces of art, and jointly launching the initiative “Stand Together Through Thick and Thin: A Charity Auction to Combat the Epidemic” with Yitiao, Modern Media, Art021, and together with more than 80 major art institutions and galleries in China and abroad. At the same time, HOW Art Museum and HOW Store will donate over 1 million RMB worth of artworks (30 pieces in total) as the foundation for this auction. We hope to convey love and faith through the power of art, showing that in the face of the epidemic, we still have courage and hope.
In light of the current outbreak, we vow to take responsibility for protecting children from the virus. Art institutions and artists hope to create a safety line for “future artists” through this initiative. And so, with love as our guiding light let us protect the prospect of a promising future!
We hereby solemnly promise that all the works collected for this initiative will be auctioned on the online platform Yitiao. The platform will be supported by the Modern Media group both offline and online. All proceeds from the benefit will go to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, which will use these proceeds to purchase epidemic prevention supplies for primary school students (including but not limited to children’s masks, forehead digital thermometers, disinfectant, and other protective substances) at the 80 schools located in the affected area.
If you’re interested in participating in the charity auction, please feel free to contact HOW Art Museum by email (info [at] howartmuseum.org) or by any of our official social media accounts listed above.
