ArtCenter of College of Design seeks a dynamic candidate interested in exploring Material Science in the context of an art and design school. Funded by a grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation, the fellow will serve a term of one year with the possibility of renewal. Load will be 50% teaching and 50% research. Fellows will work with the Chair of Humanities & Sciences to develop appropriate course offerings in the material sciences and will also oversee two student research assistants. Candidates should be able to teach across foundational and advanced science courses with students from a range of disciplinary orientations within art and design. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in collaborating in different pedagogical configurations.
The Humanities & Sciences (H&S) department at ArtCenter operates akin to a small liberal arts college within the one of the most prominent design schools in the world. Beyond offering our students a well-rounded education in both the humanities and sciences, one goal of the H&S department is to highlight the intersections of art and science and how design and engineering are interwoven disciplines. This is important to producing future leaders in the arts and design industries, as new technologies and scientific understanding constantly inform advanced art and science practices. In the last two years, H&S has been expanding its commitment to these values with an upcoming Materials Science Minor.
For more than 80 years, Art Center has had an international reputation for its rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. We are an independent, nonprofit, four-year college offering a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in ten specialized programs, and graduate degrees in four art and design disciplines.
