Created in 2002, thanks to the financial support of the Region Rhône-Alpes, Rendez-vous, an international platform dedicated to young creative artists, is handled in an original manner by three French institutions: the Musée d’art contemporain, Lyon; the Institut d’art contemporain, Villeurbanne / Rhône-Alpes; and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, Lyon.
The involvement of curators and directors of Biennials makes Rendez-vous a unique project with an exhibition in Rhône-Alpes in parallel with the Lyon Biennial and, the following year, an event abroad consisting of exhibitions and residences. Rendez-vous 07 was thus the occasion for organizing residences in Moscow, Beijing, Miami and Buenos Aires. Rendez-vous 08 was shown at Shanghai Art Museum. In 2010, the Shanghai Biennial hosted four French artists from Rendez-vous (Delphine Balley, Vincent Olinet, Marlène Mocquet, and Chourouk Hriech). In 2012, Rendez-vous 12 was received by the South African National Gallery in Cape Town.
In 2013, as in 2009 and in 2011, Rendez-vous is held at the Institut d’art contemporain, in parallel with the 12th Biennale de Lyon. An international platform, Rendez-vous 13 has been set up with the collaboration of ten curators of ten biennials (Dakar, Gwangju, Istanbul, Kiev, Kochi-Muziris, Los Angeles, São Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore, and Sydney).
This year’s event features twenty artists from five continents, ten of them living in France, with the exhibiting of new projects in painting, sculpture, video, installations, etc.
The graphic design of Rendez-vous 13 has been entrusted to Camille Garnier, assisted by Alaric Garnier and Anthony Kim. Rendez-vous 13 is accompanied by a website and a digital publication.
With the support of the Rhône-Alpes Region
