Malmö Art Academy has approximately 75 students and offers first, second and third cycle education in fine arts. It is a creative and stimulating educational environment with highly set artistic and educational goals and a very good standing in the art world. Malmö Art Academy has a clear international profile with a broad contact network abroad. The academy has many students and academic staff members from countries other than Sweden.
The studies have an international focus. The academy seeks to combine theory and practice into an artistic mindset. Great importance is placed on proximity to the current art scene, both nationally and internationally. Activities at the academy are flexible with an emphasis on the students’ individual development, where each student, using the academy’s courses and other teaching activities as a basis, sets up their own programme of studies, in consultation with the academy’s teaching staff. The students at the academy employ many different expressions and techniques in their work, both conceptually and as part of a process.
In general, the academy’s staff teach in the form of study blocks, so that the student’s own artistic activities can run in parallel with teaching. The academy has also developed a system that includes visiting lecturers, primarily in the form of external supervisors.
Duties
Teaching and supervision on the MFA programme of Fine Arts specialising in preparatory studies for artistic research. Planning and leading of the programme in cooperation with the academy’s doctoral programme. Planning and participation in admissions and assessment for the programme. The position also encompasses work on the development of the area of fine arts, both through individual artistic activities and in projects with students.
Qualifications
Eligibility
In accordance with chapter 4, section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person shall be qualified for employment as a professor in disciplines in the fine, applied or performing arts, who has demonstrated both artistic and teaching expertise and completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or obtained equivalent knowledge in some other way, unless there are special reasons. If there are special reasons, e.g. that the applicant in their previous position did not have the conditions to obtain such knowledge, the appointment may be made nonetheless. The successful candidate is to then complete training in teaching and learning in higher education during their first two years in the position, so that the requirement is met.
Assessment criteria
Very considerable emphasis is given to artistic excellence within research-based art at an international level, which means that extensive international exhibiting experience and ongoing activities on the current art scene constitute a very important part of the assessment. As the position involves planning and leading a research-based MFA programme in Fine Arts, there is a requirement for a PhD in Fine Arts. Experience of planning and leading research projects and MFA programmes in Fine Arts is a strong additional qualification.
The position requires good teaching expertise, which means very good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities at different levels and using a variety of teaching methods in which a vision for teaching artists is of considerable significance. Considerable emphasis is placed on experience of teaching at the university and higher education level.
Other requirements
In addition, there is a requirement for a good ability to be involved in external engagement and to provide information about activities as well as a good ability in other respects to lead and develop their activities.
The candidate must have mastery of a Scandinavian language and be able to master English as a language of instruction as well as in writing.
