The Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference is a dynamic, two-day event focused on emerging practices and debates within art-book culture. This year’s conference will feature keynote addresses by art historian Lucy Lippard and artist-publisher Paul Chan, as well as sessions covering a broad array of subjects, including: appropriation-based artwork, intellectual property, and copyright law; arts-publishing practices in Tokyo, Taipei and Seoul; sound-and-text intermedia publication; and graphical notation. New book to benefit the Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference
Each year the Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference commissions a new artists’ book as part of its program. Previously commissioned artists include Dexter Sinister, David Horvitz, and Emily Roysdon, and last year’s “assembled magazine” Adventures. This year, Estonian artist Triin Tamm will create a new book in collaboration with Rollo Press (Switzerland). Sales of the book will help to support free admission to the Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference for all visitors. The Conference is organized by the CABC Committee, a national group of art library professionals. Funding for the Conference is supported by generous donations from Philip Aarons and Shelley Fox Aarons, Peter Norton, and David Teiger.
The NY Art Book Fair
The Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference is presented by Printed Matter in conjunction with the seventh annual NY Art Book Fair, September 28 to 30, at MoMA PS1, Long Island City, Queens. Free and open to the public, the NY Art Book Fair is the world’s premier event for artists’ books, catalogs, monographs, periodicals, and zines presented by more than 260 international presses, booksellers, antiquarians, artists, and independent publishers from twenty-four countries.
