The Indianapolis Museum of Art is inviting artists and fashion designers to submit original, one-of-a kind-works for inclusion in Project IMA, IN:spired, a runway fashion show organized by the IMA. Submissions should be based on objects included in the IMA’s exhibition, An American Legacy: Norell, Blass, Halston & Sprouse. Selected works will be featured in runway shows at 6:30 and 7:30pm, October 11, 2012, in the IMA’s Tobias Theater.
Project IMA, IN:spired, is open to all artists and designers ages 18 or older. Entries must be the exclusive work of the submitter or submitting team, created for this show. All works must be wearable objects to be modeled on a runway and must exhibit unique, innovative, inspirational, and creative artistry based on pieces, designed by legendary Indiana fashion designers Norman Norell, Bill Blass, Halston, and Stephen Sprouse, included in An American Legacy: Norell, Blass, Halston & Sprouse.
Submission
All submissions must include an application form. The application is limited to two entries; one or both may be selected for the final runway shows. Submissions must be accompanied by high quality digital images or proposed illustrations accompanied by written descriptions. All submissions should include: name of the designer(s) and a description of selected garment(s) chosen for inspiration from the exhibition An American Legacy, along with a detailed description of proposed design(s), contact information, and primary construction materials. Please submit all materials to ProjectIMA [at] imamuseum.org by Monday, August 20.
Requirements
Models for the runway show must be provided by the designer(s). Designers and models are required to attend a run-through on Wednesday, October 10, and be present for the fashion show 4–10:30pm, Thursday, October 11. Designers must be willing to participate in collaboration with any and all IMA staff in regard to video recording, interviews, blog postings, and any other supplemental activities deemed appropriate by the IMA Public Affairs, New Media, or Textile and Fashion Arts departments. Evaluation and Best of Show
Evaluation for entries and the Best of Show award will be based upon creative uniqueness, the originality of the work, and the quality of the overall submissions. A juried Best of Show prize will be presented following the fashion show at the Behind the Seams after-party from 8:30–10:30pm.
