In 2020, The New Centre for Research & Practice branched out even more, continuing to produce quality learning experiences. Following seven years of offering higher education and avant-garde transdisciplinary research, we have emerged as the world’s leading online institution of para-academic pedagogy in humanities and arts, holding ambitious plans for the future.

We are excited to announce that our scholarship applications for our spring/summer 2021 season are open from December 10 to January 6 midnight ET. To apply, please complete this form, which includes submitting a cover letter and a writing sample (in PDF), outlining your interests and personality. Currently, half of The New Centre’s full scholarship recipients are from the Global South and half are women. In addition, all applicants from the Global South receive a 50 percent tuition reduction.

Our spring/summer 2021 season features seminars by Ezio Blasetti & Danielle Willems, J.-P. Caron, Una Chung, Colin Drumm, Ed Keller & Carla Leitao, Esther Leslie Lukáš Likavčan, Anna Longo, Dejan Lukic, Jason Mohaghegh, Thomas Moynihan, Reza Negarestani, Korinna Patelis, Post Brothers, Carl Sachs, Daniel Sacilotto and Tony Yanick.

The New Centre is now offering a new Certificate in Post-Planetary Universal Design, programmed by Ed Keller & Carla Leitão. The program asks how design and architecture can operate as a way of thinking and enacting structural change in the post-digital world. The program’s upcoming Overview Effect lectures series will include Lydia Kallipoliti, Stephanie Wakefield, Peter Watts and Ben Goertzel, whose respective work reshapes disciplinary boundaries across architecture, systems design, geography, ecology, planetology, alien life, and AGI.

Our holiday membership drive continues until December 31: 75 USD for two years, or 50 USD for a year, instead of 75. As a member, you can live audit all of our upcoming seminars and access the entire 450+ hour of archives, as well as a variety of resources including reduced rates on consultations, research assistance and mailing-list opportunities (such as calls for papers, book proposals, conferences invitations, etc). Our YouTube-only membership is also available for 4.99 USD directly from our channel.

The New Centre is also working with ESAP, a cooperative art university based in Portugal to offer an online MA in Art and Critical Studies. This is another step towards the internationalization of The New Centre’s activities, already indicated by our first-ever seminar in a non-English language, “O MAPa e a Desterritorialidade: Do CCRU ao Xenofeminismo,” taught by J.P. Caron in Portuguese this past July.

In addition, The New Centre has fostered various different collaborations this year. It started new institutional partnerships with Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (of which The New Centre instructor Misal Adnan Yıldız is now a co-director) and the California Institute of Arts, promoting their MA in Aesthetics and Politics as well as their WHAP! Lecture Series. The Summa Technologiae seminars, organized by Julieta Aranda in a collaboration between e-flux and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, featured The New Centre instructors and students. The New Centre also organized events and panels in conjunction with The Mosaic Rooms and V2 Lab. If you are interested in institutional Membership or collaborations, please click here.

Our public program Sheltering Places continues to evolve after its third season as it served as a way for researchers and instructors to engage with one another and with renowned artists, curators, and philosophers about urgent topics.

Furthermore, through managing the pool of talent within our network, this year we will start to offer professional services in writing, editing, design, UX, programming, social media consultancy, exhibition design and audiovisual production. Lastly, we would like to publicly thank Jaden Adams, the co-founder of The New Centre, for his six years of involvement as co-organizer. Adams will now be focusing on his personal career and joining us as a Board Member.
