The artists nominated for the fifth edition of the competition were: Artur Malewski, Anna Okrasko, Konrad Smoleński, Ania and Adam Witkowscy, Piotr Wysocki, Honza Zamojski, Anna Zaradny.
On 20 October 2011 an international jury recognized Konrad Smoleński as the most interesting young artist on the Polish art scene in the last two years. The award winner received a prize equal to the value of 15,000 euro.
The jury considered that the works of Konrad Smoleński strike a chord with the unspoken unrest of the contemporary moment. They also rewarded him for the sensitivity with which he makes use of sound in video art and the subtle relations he constructs between object, sound and art.
The second prize, a 3 month stay at the Villa Romana in Florence, was awarded to Honza Zamojski, for the way in which he revisits the idiom of formalism, but without the burden of history. This is a new and fresh approach which enables him to create an aesthetic of his own.
The public of Zachęta Gallery also had the opportunity to select its favourite artist of the current edition. Their Award went to Anna Zaradny.
The exhibition is accompanied by a Polish-English catalogue.
