The seven artists involved furnish “their” rooms in the Museum Morsbroich as if involved in an unconventional and pugnacious ‘flatshare’. Although they are working conceptually, they are pursuing a very wide variety of approaches to sculpture and installation, and their highly charged constellations reflect and overlap, break and touch, comment on and complete each other.

Common to all the works is that they are addressing space: acquiring or occupying it, creating an illusory space or opening up an inner one. Using different modes of presentation, the artists discuss specific propositions in space and their potential for ‘political’ or ‘socio-critical’ occupation of space. In this dialogue of positions, the “Frauenzimmer” (“women’s rooms”; the word can also mean just “women”) show themselves to be accessible thought-spaces that tell of building up and breaking down, of blockade and transparency, of processuality and volatility, of the precarious and of improvisation.

The exhibition curator is Stefanie Kreuzer.

The exhibition is accompanied by a 120-page catalogue published by the Kerber Verlag with approx. 70 colour illustrations and essays by Lilian Haberer and Stefanie Kreuzer, and also a foreword by Markus Heinzelmann.
