For the fourth year in a row, Asia Art Archive (AAA) presents Backroom Conversations during ART HK 11, a series of discussions in which leading experts and practitioners in the contemporary art field consider regional artistic currents within a global context. New to the programme, the Inaugural Burger Collection Keynote Lecture honours a significant voice in the field today and Open Platform selects projects that demand to be heard!
Is Ink Painting dead? Is It Contemporary?

Over 1,000 years old and practiced widely throughout Asia, art based on or inspired by the ink tradition is definitely alive and surprisingly varied. Three pairs of experts will consider how ink painting is relevant to the contemporary art debate and whether or not it matters.

Inaugural Burger Collection Keynote Lecture: Sarat Maharaj

The Burger Collection Keynote Lecture recognises an academic voice that has made significant contributions to the field and has the potential to influence regional as well as global perceptions of contemporary art and invites that individual to present his/her ideas in a lecture. This year, AAA welcomes Sarat Maharaj, Professor of Visual Art and Knowledge Systems at Lund University and the Malmo Art Academies, Sweden.
‘Korea, Be Inspired’

This panel will consider the case of Seoul, addressing how its development as a cosmopolitan city in the last decade has shaped internal and external perceptions of the city and how these perceptions affect Korean cultural production.

Another Life: The Digitised Personal Archive of Geeta Kapur and Vivan Sundaram
Booth X16 at ART HK 11
AAA recreates Kapur and Sundaram’s physical archive in Delhi, bringing a selection of material from the recently completed project to Hong Kong to offer a fresh perspective into the recent history of Indian art.
Support for the booth is generously provided by 84000communications, ART HK, AXA Art Insurance, IFAS, and Pico.
Wong Wai Yin’s Collection
AAA Local Artist-in-residence Wong Wai Yin presents primary source material about herself, on display in the Library at AAA during the fair.
