ART HK 11: Hong Kong International Art Fair returns to the HKCEC from 26–29 May 2011 (Preview and Vernissage 25 May)

“This is the year that, ART HK 11, should reinforce its position as ‘Asia’s Art Basel’ and become the world’s fourth or even third most important modern and contemporary art fair.”—The Art Newspaper

As the world continues to tip eastwards on its axis, Hong Kong has become the center of the art market in Asia. Sponsored by Deutsche Bank, ART HK 11 is the place to experience the excitement of the contemporary art world in Asia first-hand. Now the third largest auction market in the world after New York and London, Hong Kong is the location of choice for collectors from across Asia to buy art. Equally international collectors, museum directors, curators and other arts professionals are drawn to ART HK by an opportunity to see a quality and geographical diversity of art not presented anywhere else in the world.

With 260 of the most influential galleries from 38 countries showing the work of leading international artists, ART HK has asserted its position amongst the most important art fairs in the world. A stellar line-up of exhibitors for 2011′s Galleries Section includes such renowned galleries as Acquavella, Bruno Bischofberger, Gagosian Gallery, Barbara Gladstone, Marian Goodman, Hauser & Wirth, Kukje, Lisson Gallery, Long March Space, Victoria Miro, The Modern Institute, Roslyn Oxley9, Nature Morte, Pace Beijing, PKM, SCAI The Bathhouse, Sprüth Magers, Vitamin Creative Space, White Cube and David Zwirner. A full list of the exceptional galleries participating in this year’s Fair can be found below.

In addition to the Galleries section, ART HK will present ART FUTURES. Sponsored by Lane Crawford, this is a feature section devoted to young galleries showcasing emerging artistic talent (all artists in this section were 35 years old or less at the time of application). A 25,000 USD prize will be awarded to the best artist selected by a panel of distinguished judges including Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-Director of Exhibitions and Programs and Director of International Projects at the Serpentine Gallery in London; Lars Nittve, Executive Director of M+, the contemporary art museum in Hong Kong’s soon to be launched 2.1 billion USD West Kowloon Cultural District; and Elaine Ng, Editor and Publisher of ArtAsiaPacific Magazine. ART HK 11 will also include the launch of ASIA ONE: a section dedicated to solo presentations by Asian artists represented by Asian galleries. Together, these two features will provide a focused and insightful view of the very latest developments in contemporary art in Asia and beyond, offering something new, fresh and exciting for visitors to discover.

Asia Art Archive is the Official Education Partner of ART HK and has, from the Fair’s launch, assembled leading collectors, curators, critics and artists to debate the key issues affecting the international art world and Hong Kong. This year will be the strongest program yet, with daily film screenings and panel discussions open to the general public and free of charge.

ART HK is accompanied by a packed VIP program of events featuring exhibition openings, parties, dinners, studio visits and more – all set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s glittering skyline.

Join collectors, curators, artists and galleries from around the world at ART HK from 26–29 May for a truly significant arts experience.
