The autumn of 2021 will see the launch of two new English degree programmes in the field of Culture and Arts at Novia UAS: Bachelor of Culture and Arts, Fine Arts as well as Master of Culture and Arts, Photography.  Both programmes are low-recidency, which means that students can live anywhere in the world. Independently of this, it is mandatory to visit Finland to get the original version(s) of previous degree certificate(s) checked and to strengthen one’s personal identity during your studies. A few contact studies will be held in Campus Allegro in Jakobstad/Pietarsaari in Finland, depending on the corona-pandemic. Both programmes have a strong focus on international networks, the students professional profile and communication.

Scholarships and tuition fees
The studies are free for EU citizens. Tuition fee-paying (non EU/EEA) students can apply for a scholarship to cover a part of the tuition fee. Tuition fee for non-EU/EEA students is 6000 EUR (Bachelor) and 9000 EUR (Master) per academic year. Read more about scholarships and tuition fees here.

Bachelor of Culture and Arts, Fine Arts
This degree programme is for you: the professional, who has already worked a couple of years in the field and feel that you want to take the next step in developing your professional role as an artist. The studies are highly individualized and based on previous competencies.

The studies focus on liberal contemporary art and its manifold expressions. We use various mediums and techniques: film, multimedia and video art, painting, performance, graphics, photography, relational aesthetics (Community Art), drawing, sculpture, installation and room-related art, sound art etc. The courses (workshops) are combined with atelier studies. The programme’s most important and primary objective is to enable students to develop their own expression. The education has seven study places and covers 240 ECTS. The program starts in early autumn 2021, depending on the students previous professional experiences the length of studies is 2–3 years. Read more about the degree programme here.

Master of Culture and Arts, Photography
This degree programme is aimed at professional photographers from all over the world with a Bachelor or Master degree and at least two years’ work experience in the field of photography, visual culture and/or contemporary art. You want to broaden your international networks and improve your communication and entrepreneurial competencies. The degree programme is highly individualized and based on previous competencies.

The programme gives the student the chance to establish international contacts in order to expand their field of professional activity through mentorship, workshops, field trips and individual studies. Focus is on the development of the student’s professional profile and networking even outside his or her own country. The studies are primarily done remotely (you will be coming to Jakobstad only twice in 1.5 years) and via field trips around Europe, if the COVID19-pandemic allows. If we are not able to travel the traditional way, we still make sure to give you the tools to get the international network and influences through virtual solutions. Novia will provide a budget for the study trips within Europe. The travel and accommodation expenses to Jakobstad are not covered by Novia.

The degree programme Master of Culture and Arts, Photography covers 60 credits and offers 15 study places. The program runs from August 2021 to November 2022. Read more about the degree programme here.
