Art Dubai has announced that its fifth edition, held from 16 to 19 March 2011, will feature displays by more than 75 renowned and upcoming galleries. The fair will also feature a section of stands for alternative spaces curated by Nav Haq, Exhibitions Curator at Arnolfini (UK). Dotted throughout the exhibition halls, these five dynamic project stands will focus on some of the most interesting emerging art spaces from across Asia and the Middle East.
Highlights of the fair will include a rich programme of performative tours, installations, film screenings, radio dispatches; a museum quality exhibition presented by Van Cleef & Arpels; and the unveiling of artworks by this year’s recipients of the Abraaj Capital Art Prize.
In addition, Art Dubai hosts the Global Art Forum, this year formulated by a curatorial committee that includes Shumon Basar and Tirdad Zolghadr. Global Art Forum_5 is presented by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) in partnership with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha, and Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
In 2011, Art Dubai coincides with the opening of the 10th Sharjah Biennial, titled Plot for a Biennial. Curated by Suzanne Cotter, Curator, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project, and Rasha Salti, Creative Director, ArteEast, with Associate Curator Haig Aivazian, this Biennial will present new and specially commissioned works by artists from across the Middle East and internationally.
