LATIFA ECHAKHCH
Le rappel des oiseaux
Curated by Alessandro Rabottini
6 October 2010 – 9 January 2011
For its exhibition program Eldorado, dedicated to the most interesting emerging artists on the international scene, GAMeC presents ‘Le rappel des oiseaux,’ the first solo show in an Italian institution of Latifa Echakhch.
The exhibition is realized in collaboration with the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne of Reims, where it was presented last April; however, the overall project has been redesigned in close relationship with the exhibition space at GAMeC.
Through an extreme variety of expressive means ranging from installation to video, and painting to photography, Latifa Echakhch explores the dimensions of the individual and collective identity, the concept of culture and feelings of belonging and uprooting.
Her work is realized out of commonplace objects that the artist presents as such or after modifying them through simple actions; the conceptual matrix that lies at the basis of Latifa Echakhch’s artistic practice goes hand in hand with a remarkable poetic sensibility.
The show will be documented by a monographic catalogue that will be available in the second half of 2011. The book will constitute the first complete monograph on the artist, and it will be realized in collaboration with the Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel, the Kunstverein in Bielefeld and the FRAC Campagne-Ardenne in Reims.
The exhibition has been realized with the support of Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council.
Thanks to Istituto Svizzero di Roma for the precious cooperation.
IGOR AND SVETLANA KOPYSTIANSKY
Video Works
6 October 2010 – 9 January 2011
The exhibition is realized in cooperation with the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Georges Pompidou of Paris.
For the first time in Italy it’s possible to admire a selection of video works of the two authors that are related to one another by the theme of cinematographic image and brought together in a program designed expressly for the occasion.
4 works presented: Black and White (2008), I Knew Edwards only Slightly (2009), Fiction Double (2008) and Speak when I have Nothing to Say (2009).
Images and sequences from masterpieces by Alfred Hitchcock, Michelangelo Antonioni, Ingmar Bergman and Jean-Luc Godard are extrapolated and modified, with slight technical solutions, resulting in revealing a hidden aspect. As in all their work, what may first appear familiar is revealed under a new and unexpected light.
In addition to the show, on Thursday, October 21 the artists will meet the public during a conversation with Philippe-Alain Michaud, Film Curator at the Centre Pompidou to illustrate, through the works on display, the main themes of their work. The conversation will be moderated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Director of GAMeC.
THE PRIVATE MUSEUM
The passion for contemporary art in the collections in Bergamo
Curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and M. Cristina Rodeschini
6 October 2010 – 9 January 2011
On show a selection of works of contemporary art acquired by collectors of Bergamo throughout the course of their experience.
Works belonging to the movements of Programmed and Kinetic Art, of Arte Povera and Conceptual Art, Transavanguardia and Postmodernism, up to the latest international experiences.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to admire a heritage of about 200 works that are otherwise inaccessible, in many cases veritable museum “pieces” that have never before been on public display.
