Wavelength is an online lecture series that is a collaboration between VCUarts, the VCU Institute for Contemporary Art, and VCUarts Qatar. This lecture series brings together a dynamic group of artists, designers, curators and scholars.

Akram Zaatari: January 26, noon EST
A filmmaker, photographer and archival artist, Zaatari has a diverse practice that combines the role of image-maker, archivist, curator and critical theorist. A co-founder of the Arab Image Foundation, his work is largely based on collecting, studying and archiving the photographic history of the Arab world, concerned with notions of desire, resistance, memory and wartime.
Mohamed Bourouissa: February 2, noon EST
Bourouissa implicitly describes contemporary society by its contours. With a critical take on the mass media image, the subjects of his photographs and videos are people left behind at the crossroads of integration and exclusion. His complex works are held in leading collections around the world.
American Artist: February 16, noon EST
Artist’s work considers black labor and visibility within networked life. Their practice makes use of video, installation, new media, and writing. Artist is a resident at Red Bull Arts Detroit and a 2018–19 recipient of the Queens Museum Jerome Foundation Fellowship.
Ryan Dennis: March 2, noon EST
Dennis focuses on African American contemporary art with a particular emphasis on socially engaged practices, site-specific projects, and public interventions. She is the chief curator and artistic director of the Center for Art and Public Exchange (CAPE) at the Mississippi Museum of Art.
Onye Ozuzu: March 16, noon EST
Ozuzu is a dance administrator, performing artist, choreographer, educator and researcher currently serving as dean of the University of Florida College of the Arts in Gainesville, Florida. She has dedicated her work to cultivating space for diverse dance forms to exist in pluralist relationship to one another.
Tarek Atoui: March 30, noon EST
Atoui comprehensively exploits the potential of sound art. He is not only interested in how audio events or sounds develop an acoustic effect; equally important to him is how these phenomena can be perceived with sensory organs other than the ear, how they act as a catalyst for human interaction, and how they relate to social, historical or spatial parameters.
Virginia Lung: April 13, noon EST
Lung is a Hong Kong-based interior design expert and innovator whose work epitomizes original theme-driven design. A world-wide award winner, her company One Plus Partnership Ltd. is iconic in novel and distinctive cinema and urban design.
