Now on view at LACMA: American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life, 1765-1915. From the colonial period to the present, Americans have been inventing characters and plots, settings and situations to give meaning to our everyday lives.

American Stories presents masterpieces of American painting from artists including Mary Cassatt, John Singleton Copley, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, and many more. From evocative, personal portraits to multi-figured compositions that helped to define national identity and character, each painting tells a story about American life.
