This coming Wednesday February 17th, The International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid is opening its doors on its 29th edition, transforming the capital of Spain into a huge showcase for the art of today. ARCOmadrid_ 2010, held from February 17th through 21st at Feria de Madrid, will be welcoming countless collectors, critics, curators and other players in the art world, besides many major galleries coming from the world’s leading art capitals.Having marked out a place for itself on the international art market, ARCOmadrid, organised by IFEMA, is presenting booths from over two hundred galleries which, in turn, are exhibiting work by around 3,000 artists, providing an overview of happening movements and tendencies in international art. The fair’s General Programme, together with its subsection ARCO40, combines work by mature and mid-career artists alongside programmes focussing on emerging artists. The overall programme is rounded off by the Solo Projects, Expanded Box, Cinema Loop and Performing ARCO curated sections, mirroring ARCOmadrid’s interest in more groundbreaking art with projects from 30 countries selected by: Jacopo Crivelli Visconti, Sergio Edelsztein, Ivan López Munuera, André Magnin, Shamin M Momin, Susanne Neubauer, Olesya Turkina, Juan de Nieves, Adriano Pedrosa and María Inés Rodríguez, Domenico Quaranta, Javier Duero, Carolina Grau and Paul Young.
This perspective is completed with the spotlight on LOS ANGELES as the fair’s guest city. With an exciting selection of 17 major galleries curated by Kris Kuramitsu and Christopher Miles, ARCOmadrid gives visitors a unique chance to acquaint themselves with the art scene from one of the USA’s major centres for production. The galleries from LA are: 1301PE; ACME; CHERRY AND MARTIN; CHINA ART OBJETS GALLERIES; CHRISTOPHER GRIMES GALLERY ; KATRYN BRENNAN GALLERY ; L.A LOUVER ; MARGO LEAVIN GALLERY ; PERES PROJECTS ; REDLING FINE ART ; REGEN PROJECTS ; ROSAMUND FELSEN GALLERY ; SHOSHANA WAYNE ; STEVE TURNER CONTEMPORARY ; SUSANNE VIELMETTER ; THE HAPPY LION ; THOMAS SOLOMON
At the same time, there is also room for dialogue and debate at the fair thanks to the 8th Experts Forum, with the participation of around 80 art experts. ARCOmadrid_ 2010 gets the international calendar of art fairs off to a kickstart with more than 5,000 VIP guests and 3,000 journalists from all over the globe, together with artists, intellectuals, museum directors and other players in the art world. Beyond all doubt, it is an event nobody will want to miss, an event where we can check the pulse of the market, enjoy the wonderful works on show and discover where contemporary creation is heading to.
