Seeking Part-time Professor in Fine Arts

HEAD – Genève, Geneva University of Art and Design, invites applications for the position of HES Part-time Professor in Fine Arts / WORK.MASTER, Contemporary Artistic Practices. 

The Work.Master programme is one of three elective courses for the MA in Fine Arts at HEAD – Genève. It offers dedicated spaces (both physical and conceptual) for the development of contemporary artistic practice, irrespective of medium, aesthetics or format. Open to pooling research activities as well as expanding and specifying its students’ and lecturers’ areas of research, the programme aims to expand practical and theoretical horizons, enabling students to carry out diverse, heterogeneous projects. The teaching staff, which includes regular tutors and various international guest tutors, works together with students, both collectively and individually in a horizontal manner, and focuses its approach on artistic work, individual research and real-life practice.

Main features of the function:
–In a context of collegial responsibility; co-directing the Work.Master programme in all its artistic, educational and institutional aspects, contributing to its pedagogical definition, positioning and objectives of the programme’s project in close relationship with the Head of Department/Dean and in relation to the other MA elective courses on the Fine Arts programme (and in relation to other educational programmes in Switzerland and abroad).
–Coordinating theory and practice, establishing the programme of visiting speakers, and supervising projects inside and outside the school.
–Following students’ courses, research, MA Theses, juries and projects up to graduation.
–Teaching in Art in the context of “lab.zones” (workshops),
–Implementing real-life projects and cross-disciplinary experiences relating to contemporary art in- and outside the strict framework of the classroom (public space, city, nature, etc.).
–Contributing to the management and administrative organisation of the course module.
–Participating in the school’s educational boards.
–Establishing partnership (with other MA programmes in Switzerland and abroad, cultural institutions, etc.).
–Possibly participating in one or more research projects in Fine Arts.

Profile:
–University degree or equivalent diploma from an art school
–Professional artist (with an active artistic practise) for whom teaching is an integral part of their aesthetic project.
–Experience of the contemporary arts scene, with a network of national and international artistic relationships.
–Ability to articulate mastery of the technical means inherent to contemporary practices, with an emphasis on cross-disciplinarity.
–Good knowledge of contemporary aesthetic and critical issues at play in contemporary art discourse and beyond, particularly through a cultural lense, ideally connecting and covering various periods, geographical areas and/or methodologies. 
–Real skills in sharing of knowledge in art with higher-level teaching experience desired.
–Ability to lead students’ approaches towards interdisciplinary research, covering areas linking fine arts, sculpture, painting, with sound, multimedia, publishing, performance, writing, etc.
–Organisational skills, professional experience in the realisation of artistic and cultural projects. 
–Good ability to work in a team, to encourage the sharing and exchange of knowledge and carry out collective projects.
–Good writing skills in French and English.
–Regular availability is required.
