Issue 17: FLOWERS out now
Dear Readers,
We’re very excited to bring you some great news: Bidoun has recently been nominated for a 2009 National Magazine Award for General Excellence, as well as an Utne Independent Press Award for General Excellence and Social and Political Commentary. Our readers are the real ones who give us reason to keep printing, issue after issue. If you’re not already a subscriber, please consider it!
Issue 17—FLOWERS—is now available. In this issue, Bidoun, along with a cast of the bold and the beautiful, the dead-too-young and the undying, the dapper and the freakish, the innocent and the guilty, dives headfirst into a bed of flowers. In an artist’s project, Vartan Avakian considers his namesake, Vartan the Brave, patron saint of the Armenian nation, who, oddly enough, was kind of a loser. FLOWERS also includes stories from the short, sweet life of Sanaa Mehaidley and the slightly longer, bittersweet life of Princess Di. Not to mention an appearance from the forty-fourth US president, as seen through the lens of Hawaiian nationalism. Explore more of FLOWERS here.
Bidoun also invites you to join us and fellow art magazines Cabinet, Paper Monument, and Pin-Up for presentations and a party at BookCourt in Brooklyn on Wednesday, April 15.
