“The biennial Artes Mundi has become a hub of serious contemporary art.”

Nominations are now invited for names of artists to be considered for the Artes Mundi Prize in 2010. The first three Artes Mundi Prizes have established an enviable record of spotlighting artists who later emerge as significant figures on the international stage of contemporary visual art. N S Harsha the latest Prize recipient in 2008 feels that it has given him wider recognition and underpinned his diverse artistic practice.
The Artes Mundi Shortlist is selected by two independent, internationally-respected curators, who explore the work of a wide range of artists, searching for those who:
• have achieved recognition for the quality of their work in their own country or sphere and are emerging internationally
• add to our understanding of humanity through work which discusses the human form or condition.
Being selected for the shortlist gives artists a platform to show a body of work at a significant twelve-week exhibition, described by the Times as a “must-see event“, that draws record audiences to the National Museum Cardiff, Wales. Equally importantly, it brings international publicity and recognition and, of course, the opportunity to receive one of the largest cash prizes in the art world.
The final shortlist includes artists from anywhere in the world and there is no age restriction. Artists cannot nominate themselves so those knowledgeable in the contemporary visual arts are invited to put names forward.
To put forward an artist or artists for the Artes Mundi Prize in 2010 a nomination form should be completed, visit www.artesmundi.org/nomination2.php for completion on-line, or to download a form.
