The distinctive curriculum offers a one-of-a-kind, integrative experience working in the field of contemporary art, developing exhibitions and multi-disciplinary and inclusive public programmes. Students are introduced to specialised aspects of curatorial practice through dedicated lectures and workshops delivered by forward-thinking professionals, including sessions such as Commissioning Art, Writing on Contemporary Art, Navigating the Art World, Curating Archives, Networked Curating and the Museum and its Ethics. All teaching will take place at London South Bank University. In addition, during the 20-week Professional Placement module students will work alongside highly-experienced staff at Whitechapel Gallery.

Faculty is composed of established art professionals from Whitechapel Gallery as well as independent curators, critics and other experts from related fields.

–First-hand exposure to the devising, researching and implementation of art exhibitions and public programmes.
–Insight into a wide range of curatorial strands such as commissioning art and new media, curating archives, curating public and private collections, facilitating artist and writers’ residencies as well as curating solo and group exhibitions.
–Cultural awareness and a critical understanding of all aspects of working in an art institution, including developing communications and fundraising strategies in a vibrant international location.
–Practical, intellectual and critical skills through a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience with Whitechapel Gallery’s rich network of curators, artists, critics and academics.
–Free access to the Whitechapel Gallery’s diverse programme of public talks and events for the duration of the course.
