The acclaimed international art fair, long a meeting place for knowledgeable curators and connoisseurs, opens Wednesday with a dazzling Preview Party for its ever exuberant and loyal fans. The Preview, a benefit for the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books of The Museum of Modern Art, will include the debut of the 2008 Benefit Print created by artist Ed Ruscha in a limited edition, entitled “Here and Now.” Tickets are required for this event and can be purchased online at www.moma.org/printfair. The benefit print is available to those who purchase a Lead Benefactor or Benefactor ticket (subject to limited availability).
The IFPDA Print Fair offers an extraordinary buying opportunity for collectors across a wide array of interests. From experimental projects by hot contemporary artists to old master, modern and contemporary master works, the Fair provides a concentrated view of the medium. While iconic works will command five and six figure prices, there will be a multitude of choices in an affordable range for collectors seeking blue chip names and newly emergent artists.
Exhibitors at the Fair are all members of the International Fine Print Dealers Association, an organization of prestigious galleries, contemporary print publishers, and distinguished private dealers united by their expertise in this medium. This year’s Fair will feature 89 exhibitors presenting works that represent the highest achievements in the genre.
The juxtaposition of many periods and movements throughout the Fair illustrates the enduring commitment of artists to printmaking as part of their artistic practice. Exhibitors at the Fair include the IFPDA’s contemporary print publishers and galleries who work with internationally renowned artists to produce ambitious new projects. This year, collectors will have a first look at new prints by Craigie Aitchison, Polly Apfelbaum, Richard Artschwager, John Baldessari, Burt Barr, Louise Belcourt, Randy Bolton, Chakaia Booker, Louise Bourgeois, Claudio Bravo, John Buck, Tom Burckhardt, Francesco Clemente, Michael Craig-Martin, Amy Cutler, Laurent De Brunhoff, Jim Dine , Carroll Dunham, Richard Dupont, Richard Estes, Connor Everts, Roland Fischer, Fischli & Weiss, Orly Genger, Sam Gilliam, Jane E.
