Join us for a first look at the NY Art Book Fair offerings, including a special performance conceived by artist Jonathan Monk, and for the release of the 2008 fall benefit editions, by artists PAUL CHAN, ANNE COLLIER and MATTHEW HIGGS, and JONATHAN MONK.
Tickets come with a special edition artwork by JONATHAN MONK. All proceeds benefit Printed Matter, Inc.
PRINTED MATTER, INC., the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of publications made by artists, presents the third annual NEW YORK ART BOOK FAIR on October 24-26 at PHILLIPS DE PURY & COMPANY in New York City.
The only fair of its kind, the NY Art Book Fair presents 143 exhibitors from around the globe. Publishers, booksellers, and antiquarian dealers from Berlin to Beijing present a diverse range of the very best in contemporary art books, art catalogs, artist’s books, art periodicals, and zines. Outgrowing its original site, the Fair now occupies a 30,000 square foot space provided by PHILLIPS DE PURY & COMPANY at its 450 West 15th St. location.
The New York Art Book Fair is FREE and open to the public.
2008 Highlights include
FRIENDLY FIRE, a curated section of the Fair, features thirty independent artists and art collectives in three galleries, including a video room programmed by Deep Dish TV, Paper Tiger Television and Not an Alternative.
QUEER ZINES, from Straight to Hell to BUTT Magazine, an inclusive historical survey of over 100 publications that examines the continuing transgressive potential of queer and punk zines. Curated by Philip Aarons and AA Bronson, with Alex Gartenfeld. A comprehensive catalogue is available for purchase.
CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS’ BOOKS CONFERENCE, focusing on recent developments in artists’ books, is co-presented by Printed Matter, Inc. and the Art Libraries Society of New York (ARLIS/NY) with events at the NY Art Book Fair, the MoMA, the New York Public Library and other locations throughout the city. The keynote presentation features a public interview by HANS ULRICH OBRIST with JOSEPH GRIGELY and RIRKRIT TIRAVANIJA.

– Electronic Arts Intermix premieres a new video program–OUT OF PRINT
– plus a jam-packed schedule of book launches, readings, panels, and performances by Brendan Fowler, Angel Deradoorian, Woods, and Kayla Guthrie.
