The Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture is pleased to announce our new Associate Heads and Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI): Professor Mary-Lou Arscott, Associate Head for Design Fundamentals; Professor Joshua Bard, Associate Head for Design Research; Professor Kai Gutschow, Associate Head for Design Ethics; and Professor Erica Cochran Hameen, Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The new positions are effective July 1, 2021.
These positions are the direct outcome of Pedagogies 2020, our yearlong strategic planning process to review our mission, values, and programs and to develop an actionable vision that can address some of the significant challenges facing architecture and the built environment in the 21st century. Through conversations with faculty, staff, students, and alumni we identified ways to better organize the school’s governance that will allow for greater faculty and student participation in decision making. The new positions will support our undergraduate and graduate programs, guide the school’s research, community engagement, and facilities improvements with the aim of making our students’ learning experience more fulfilling and consequential.
