Film submission deadline: June 1, 2021
Film submission
We have extended the deadline for our film submissions to June 1st. Every year we receive a lot of interesting submissions from film makers around the world and we want to invite you to submit this year as well. Visit our website to see the guidelines and data policy.
Copenhagen Architecture Festival started as a film festival in 2014 before expanding its field into other media as well. It has an extensive film program of 50–90 film titles yearly, consisting of, among others, invited guest-curated programs by people such as Bjarke Ingels, Dorte Mandrup, Anupama Kundoo and Tatiana Bilbao.
Architecture & film
Architecture has had a starring role in movies and documentaries since the beginning of filmmaking.
Since the beginning of the festival in 2014, the festival has explored the intersection between the two disciplines of film and architecture. Recently, the boundaries between the disciplines have become more fluid as architects increasingly incorporate the film medium into their work, by employing cinematic techniques as processual tools and as using film as documentation for broad appeal to a wide audience.
The festival provides a platform for both the artistic works and for education and learning.
Since 2016 it has hosted a yearly summer school exploring the obvious and the unspoken relation of architecture and film, and since 2020 had an affiliated PhD program exploring how film can be used as a tool to communicate place-bound and sensuous characteristics between stakeholders involved in the early phases of architecture. Also, with a growing collection of short lectures and examples of films produced by students, we want to explore and provide a platform for “best practices” in the field of teaching architecture using film.
