Considering the relevant pictorial tradition that has always existed in Castellón, the Honourable County Council created in 2004 the I Castellón County Council International Painting Prize. This contest was created with the aim of harbouring a reference prize in the national and international artistic scene.
The Castellón County Council’s commitment to culture and, particularly, modern art is quite firm, determined and continuous. An example of that is the International Painting Contest, which is already on its IV edition. It had remarkable national and international reviews and participation.
In this sense, we are very proud of the prize’s national and international welcome. The III edition had an exceptional popularity, with the participation of 941 artists, from 55 different countries. This means that Castellón is known all over the world thanks to this Expanded Painting Prize.
In this way, we proudly confirm that our contest contributes to the consolidation of an artist’s career, such as Melvin Martínez, who won the II edition and nowadays has works forming part of the most important art collections such as the Rubell’s. It also contributes to the launching of an artist’s career, as it is happening to the young Portuguese artist Carlos Bunga, winner of the III edition.
I hope this edition will have the very same success as the previous ones, and once again we are able, to gauge the latest tendencies in painting and modern art without leaving Castellón.
