Starting in January 2022 with innovations in terms of faculty and structure.

Project management at the service of culture and art, a mix of skills that the IED Master course in Arts Management, now in its tenth edition, grows in the DNA of its students. Each edition is unique, but the leitmotiv is the itinerant formula in three cities of Italian art and culture heritage: Rome, Florence and Venice

What will allow the Master course in Arts Management to be unique? The Master course is divided into two operational modules that have an individual study path related to the city in which they are held.

The Florence module is focused on training specialists in designing, planning and organizing complex events in the visual arts and festival fields. The Rome module is concentrated on the fine-tuning of a new approach for managing the artistic heritage in relation with the contemporary cultural scene. In between the two operational modules, students are involved in a special week in Venice, in collaboration with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

In these cities, art merges with several business realities, allowing the acquisition of wide-ranging skills and competences.

Methodology
The Master course leads participants into a training path designed as a general framework in which cultural skills, technical expertise, project development abilities are step by step introduced, implemented and consolidated. In the past the students have worked on very challenging exhibition projects in collaboration with Palazzo Strozzi, Florence realized in different venues such as Gomito a GomitoPolitical Objects, At the edge of Chaos (in collaboration also with Manifattura Tabacchi, Florence), as well as workshops and projects in collaboration with the MAXXI Museum in Rome.

“The Master course builds a central figure for the life of cultural institutions who deals with art and culture project management. This professional is capable of identifying innovative content, structuring a comprehensive event schedule, planning and developing fundraising and resource management. The master offers a rich program for a new cross media approach in the post pandemic scenario.”

Course coordinators
Florence module: Daria Filardo, independent curator
Rome module: Francesco Dobrovich, cultural and communication manager

NOT AN ARTIST
The profession of the Art/Cultural Manager is one of the many involved in the research project NOT AN ARTIST.
The goal is to foster a conversation and a discussion about the role and evolution of all the “side-professions” that complement the work of Artists  in order to constantly update the academic offer and the faculty of IED and to provide the most effective education experience to those interested in entering the world of contemporary art.
