The exhibit features the most significant architectural developments that have occurred in Spain during the last five years – an outstanding diverse panorama that has attracted all major international new architectural trends.
The exhibit first opened in New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Its international debut in Madrid has been enriched with a twofold complementary action: “On-Site Tour” – six thematic itineraries through Madrid, and “On-Site Talk” a series of lectures will tackle contemporary architecture and the state of the matter in the Region of Madrid, with the contribution of the featured and other relevant architects.
This MoMA exhibit’s international debut has been organized by PromoMadrid: www.promomadrid.com
It features Spain’s extraordinarily diverse current architectural panorama.
The 53 projects featured range from social Housing, hotels, airports or museums to medical centers. 70 % of them belong to Spanish architects, the rest to international Architecture Firms. 18 are already concluded, as the new Barajas Airport Terminal (Richard Rogers and Lamela Studio), the Sanchinarro’s viewing-point (MVRDV and Blanca Lleó) and the expansion of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Ateliers Jean Nouvel). Among the 35 projects under construction we may find the Parador of Alcala (Aranguren and Gallegos), the Madrid Tennis Centre (Dominique Perrault Architecture) and the Levene House in San Lorenzo del Escorial.
To provide a context to the exhibition in the Region of Madrid, PromoMadrid has organized until November 12th six different guided bus tours to the most emblematic works in the city of Madrid and (from October the 2nd until November the 14th) two cycles of lectures that propose an approximation to contemporary architecture with a particular focus on the Region of Madrid; a symposium with the architecture firms participating in the exhibition and other relevant members of the architecture world, such as Dominique Perrault, William Curtis, Iñaqui Abalos, Aranguren & Gallegos, and others.
