Dear friends and readers,

We are pleased to announce the launch of e-flux journal in Russian—a joint project of syg.ma and e-flux. Beginning in August 2021, syg.ma will gather and host all journal texts already translated into Russian, as well as publish new material. The project is coordinated by artist Arseny Zhilyaev, syg.ma co-founder Furqat Palvan-Zade, and syg.ma editor Konstantin Koryagin.

syg.ma is a platform for publishing texts about the human, cultural phenomena, and society. In 2014, editor Furqat Palvan-Zade and developer Denis Drachev launched the platform as an experiment in aggregating and translating Russian-language texts from magazines, small publishers, cultural institutions, and independent researchers. Initially, syg.ma didn’t intend to create a permanent editorial board. But in 2019 the project was reformatted: syg.ma is now run according to lax editing principles under the direction of editor-in-chief Kirill Rozhnetsov.

Several pivotal projects have been realized under the auspices of syg.ma. “F-Writing” («Ф-письмо») is a self-organized platform publishing texts that enact, problematize, and/or analyze queer and feminist thought and writing. “Karta” («Карта», “Map”) is a project through which young social scientists share their research of contemporary Russia. Radio.syg.ma hosts a live broadcast and a constantly growing archive of audio from independent musicians, communities, and labels. “Tashkent-Tbilisi” is an archive of studies on the history and contemporaneity of Central Asia and the Caucasus. The platform also houses “Kant’s Manty” («Манты Канта»), a very slow culinary show featuring Russian scholars and contemporary philosophers.

e-flux journal in Russian is here.

Translated essays by Hito Steyerl, Françoise Verges, Trevor Paglen, Yuk Hui, Benjamin Bratton, Eduardo Viverios de Castro and Déborah Danowski, Stefan Heidenreich, Anton Vidokle, and Irmgard Emmelhainz are available to read on syg.ma now
