artfairs inc. is pleased to announce the premiere of photo MIAMI – the International Contemporary Fair of Photo-Based Art, Video and New Media which will be held December 7 – 10, 2006 during Art Basel Miami Beach.
This new contender adds to the mix of contemporary art fairs by presenting 50 international galleries exhibiting the most exciting photo-based art including, conceptual, video, digital and mixed media artwork. photo MIAMI crosses boundaries between photography and video, highlighting the medium’s complexity within contemporary art making.
The fair will present a special “Invitational Preview” section of curated projects of emerging international collectives and galleries redrawing the boundaries of technology, photography, and contemporary art making. Madrid-based curator Paco Barragán and Miami-based Nina Arias will both curate specific projects for the fair. The fair will also feature a curated video lounge, major photographic book publishers and an artists lecture series, including Enrique Martinez Celaya.
An opening night reception will be benefit Legal Art a Miami based not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing artists with affordable legal services, unique events and educational opportunities.
Set in a stand alone building in the Wynwood Art District only blocks away from the Rubell and Margulies Collections, as well as the other contemporary art fairs, photo MIAMI has positioned itself as the art fair presenting the most exciting and cutting edge photo-based art being produced today.
