Omar Barquet, Didem Erk and Itamar Gov

Zilberman Gallery is proud to announce the representations of artists Omar Barquet, Didem Erk and Itamar Gov.

Omar Barquet’s (b. 1979, Mexico) works predominantly refers to space, time, landscape, sound, nature and memory investigating emotional and internal human chaos within. The particularity of his work stems from his ability to understand the nature of space in a technical, analytical way which relates movement and repetition, visibility and invisibility. Barquet modifies his source of inspirations in his words “in a way of ‘collage’ for the purpose of giving the projects a synthetic language” thereby bringing an interdisciplinary aspect to it, using a “symphony” as a system to organize all his projects and collaborations. 

Didem Erk (b. 1986, Turkey), as a visual artist, uses performance, video, installation and text as tools in her works and explores the relationship of space with notions such as language, memory and border/frontiers. She examines the flaws and fictional elements of personal and social memory. The act of remembering takes place through Erk’s method of conveying her art, performance, and site-specific installation. While handling sociological events as forms and concepts, she positions her language somewhere between political and poetic. In order to liberate from the destructive attitude of censorship and self-censorship in history, she focuses on healing and reintegrating the destruction into the world through some manipulations on found objects, body, surface and paper.

Itamar Gov (b. 1989) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator living between Berlin, Paris and Bologna. Addressing the intricate relations between history, ideology and aesthetics, Gov’s practice focuses on sculptural and spatial installations alongside graphic and video works, and communicates with various forms of personal, collective and institutional memory. Working with a varied set of visual and theoretical tools, the starting point of his projects is an inquiring skepticism towards cultural traditions, conventions and gestures that are considered self-evident. Gov’s works are based on an ongoing research, highlighting the strong tension between the known and the supposed and challenging a clear border between facts and falsehoods, memory and imagination. Never providing a full and complete picture, he invites viewers to engage with the elements of the works and to become part of an inquisitive process. Member of the curatorial teams of documenta 14 (Kassel, Athens), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) and Fondazione Adolfo Pini (Milan), he has been involved in numerous art and film initiatives, exhibitions, festivals, workshops and publications.
