The Swiss Institute Contemporary Art, New York, (SI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gianni Jetzer as its new Director. To further strengthen its program activities the SI also promoted Interim Artistic Director Gabrielle Giattino as the new SI Curator. Gianni Jetzer succeeds Marc-Olivier Wahler, who has recently moved to Paris as Director of the Palais de Tokyo.
Gianni Jetzer has been Director of the Neue Kunst Halle St.Gallen since 2001, where he developed an inspiring program with some thirty exhibitions and numerous events. At the same time, he spearheaded the re-launch of the Kunst Halle in a newly renovated building and opened up the space to a wider public. Jetzer has also been a freelance curator for various projects at the Helmhaus Zurich, Expo 02, Art Basel, the Stedelijk Museum Sittard, and at other places. From 1998-2001, Gianni Jetzer was a curator at the Migros Museum for Contemporary Art in Zurich. He frequently contributes to newspapers, magazines and art publications. In 2005, he received the Swiss Art Award for curatorial achievements.
The SI Co-Chairs Dieter von Graffenried and Fabienne Abrecht stated that Gianni Jetzer will continue to further develop the SI as a well respected, cutting-edge contemporary art space. He will assume his directorship this summer and will present his first show in New York in fall. Upcoming SI programs include exhibitions by two young Swiss artists – Valentin Carron (April/May) and Philippe Decrauzat (June/July) and by Berlin based Ceal Floyer (September/ October). Additional events, film cycles (On Notice), artists projects (Interface in your Face, Armory Show 2006), and lectures in the coming months are being organized by Gabrielle Giattino. More program details are available online at www.swissinstitute.net.
The SI is an independent art space celebrating 20 years of fostering an international cultural dialogue between New York, Switzerland and the world. Its program is funded by members, foundations, corporate sponsors and Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council.
