The »Spinning the Web the eBay Connection« exhibition (September 24, 2005 January 29, 2006) combined artworks from the MMK Collection with 221 objects that had been bought through eBay auctions.

We have selected 30 items for the online and live auction on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 7 p.m., which will be conducted by Andreas Rumbler (MD of Christies Deutschland) and eBay.

Should you wish to take part in the auction in person at the MMK, please register for it by e-mailing daniela.denninger@stadt-frankfurt.de. Please state your postal address and phone number. You will be issued with a bidding number on the night.

MMK intends to use the proceeds from the auction to purchase a work by Franz West.
The auction
We have planned from the outset that after the exhibition we would make certain all the things acquired via eBay, which we then temporarily combined with artworks from the Collection, were inserted back into the world from which they came. This involves various steps. We will start with 30 selected objects that will be sold by a combination of online auction and live auction in the MMK. In the weeks that follow, we will auction off the remaining items exclusively via eBay. Since we are convinced that the museum as signifier generator has charged the items with new meaning and familiarized our visitors with them, we hope that many art lovers will take part in the safe knowledge that their bids go to support the MMK Collection.
How it works
The objects to be auctioned live on February 16 will go on show in eBay as of February 7 at www.ebay.de/starsandcharity.de. In other words, you can start bidding for the objects that have been posted on the Net with a minimum price as of February 7. On the evening of February 16 things will get all the more exciting. World-wide any eBay member who has specially registered for the event and all registered bidders at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt will compete live during the final hours and minutes of the auction. The auction ends when no further bid is entered via eBay and no additional bid placed in the hall. All bid prices are for the item itself, without a frame or display case. Should you also be interested in frames and display cases, then please consult the MMK after the auction. Payment shall be made on receipt of invoice. The items will all be sent by post or can be collected from the Museum. As is customary at eBay, the buyer bears the costs of mailing.
