Seeking Head of Architecture (full-time, tenured)

The Knowlton School at The Ohio State University (OSU) seeks to fill the position of Architecture Section Head and Robert S. Livesey Professor. This is a full-time, tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor that carries an endowed chair. The start date is fall 2022. The Architecture Section Head (title equivalent to Department Chair) works in partnership with architecture faculty and students, the heads of Landscape Architecture and City and Regional Planning sections, alumni, staff, the Associate Director, and Director of the Knowlton School to facilitate an outstanding architectural education and contribute to advancing the discipline.

We are seeking energetic, forward-thinking candidates at a unique and opportune moment for the Knowlton School. The school, College of Engineering (of which the school is part), and university are under new leadership, signaling an exciting transition that coincides with a general rethinking of architecture’s role in the world and engagement with pressing issues through creative inquiry. The new Head will enjoy considerable resources to build upon existing strengths and chart future trajectories through strategic hirings in architecture and across the school; the university’s RAISE (race, inclusion, and social equity) employment initiative; and interdisciplinary ventures in partnership with the Landscape Architecture and City and Regional Planning sections. Additional resources within the Architecture Section connect it to the advancement of disciplinary and interdisciplinary conversations nationally and globally. These include the Baumer Visiting Professorship, the LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, and endowed lecture, exhibition, and publication series.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished reputation in the field of architecture. This reputation will be based on a body of work that may include practice-based, scholarly, or alternative forms of creative inquiry. They should have experience teaching and mentoring in an academic environment, be prepared to leverage interdisciplinary opportunities, and situate architecture within our present social, cultural, and environmental context.

Qualifications

– Candidates are required to hold a terminal degree in architecture or a closely allied discipline. They should demonstrate a track record of creative practice or research-for-practice. This could include projects and/or exhibitions, installations, and publications.
