Brrrrrrrrrrr!!! Warm up with Flash Art Internationals first issue of the New Year celebrating the vibrant and balmy artscape of L.A. in Focus Los Angeles. The young and restless generation of artists is covered and discovered here within a dictionary of more then 40 names. This is the new breed coming after artists such as Jason Rhoades, Catherine Opie, Andrea Zittel and their helter skelter putative fathers like Paul McCarthy, Mike Kelley, Raymond Pettibon, Charles Ray, John Baldessari.

Complementary to the artists dictionary, The City of Angeles by Clayton Campbell overviews the most recent developments in the L.A. art scene. The work of L.A.-based artist Tim Hawkinson is comprehensively examined in a feature article by writer and curator Christopher Miles, material taken fresh from his solo show at New Yorks Whitney and Los Angeles LACMA. Last but not least, Aaron Rose brings up plenty of rarities in L.A. street art throughout the citys peaks and valleys.

The cover story of the January-February issue is dedicated to the radical Polish artist and performer Katarzyna Kozyra. Her career, from the early 90s to now, is examined in a captivating text by Hanna Wróblewska, vice director of Warsaws Zacheta National Gallery.

Cutting can be a way of understanding an action or phenomenon, states Damián Ortega in a feature interview conducted by Rodrigo Moura. In this conversation he elaborates on his background and his original cultural environment in Mexico City.
On the other hand, New York-based filmmaker Eve Sussman explains the process and the means that stand behind her latest big production, The Rape of the Sabine Women now going through the post-production phase. In an interview by Katerina Gregos she tells how her movies relate, or differ, to art history Masters Rubens and Velasquez.

This issues Reprint section stars a memorable interview with Felix Gonzalez-Torres. This interview, made by Robert Nickas, was published in these pages in 1991 and is here revisited in the light of the latest developments of performance and conceptual art.

Global Art takes up Journal, a video assemblage by Claude Closky, and the Ouverture digs into the performances of the young Los Angeles team My Barbarian who have recently participated in Performa 05 biennial in New York.

Beatrice Leanza speaks with collector Guan Yi about the prospects and difficulties of collecting young Chinese art and Andrea Bellini reports on the mania of the Art Basel Miami Beach fair.

Reviews in this issue include: British Art Show 6, Ecstasy, After the Act, inSITE, Rainbow, Nate Lowman, Catherine Sullivan, Mark Bradford, Richard Tuttle, Monique Prieto, Andrea Zittel, Laura Belém, Jeff Wall, Paul McCarthy, Isaac Julien, Jonathan Monk, Pierre Bismuth and Michel Gondry, SEO, Christian Andersson, Michael Sailstorfer, Manon de Boer, Anna Galtarossa, Bojan Sarcevic, Liam Gillick, Song Dong, Kain Picken and Rob McKenzie, Yokohama Triennale, Fukuoka Triennial and Guangzhou Triennial.
