argos is one of Belgiums leading contemporary art centres. In its building argos presents a diverse program of exhibitions and events. Through publications and other programs that extend beyond its walls, the organisation also aims to foster the development and interpretation of audiovisual art within contemporary culture. argos further maintains and develops a preservation archive and a public media library for time-based media works of art involving video, film, audio and computer based elements. Exhibition projects and other events are supported by publications and lectures and where possible coherence is aspired between the different functions of the institute.
Job description
We are searching for an enthusiastic artistic director, fully engaged in the art world and who can take forward and develop argos and strengthen the centres national and international profile.
Profile
The successful applicant will be a person with considerable experience of and proven achievement within the field of the contemporary arts. He/she must bring to the organisation artistic vision and strategic leadership including a track record in programming and curating, high-level organisational skill and experience, wide international contacts, a commitment to supporting artists, broadening access and diversifying audiences. International network in the visual arts field is an important qualification. The ability to communicate fluently in English is essential. To acquire knowledge of Dutch will be requested once the position is taken up.
Conditions of employment
Full-time position starting from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2006, with the possibility of prolongation. (The starting date can be extended in common consent) The salary level will be determined by mutual agreement and is dependent on the candidates demonstrable experience.
