Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, New Zealand
The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is New Zealands leading contemporary art museum and home to the collection of modernist filmmaker and kinetic sculptor Len Lye. Since opening in 1970 the Gallery has been committed to developing a contemporary art museum that is recognised internationally for its global vision and special commitment to contemporary art of the countries of the Pacific Rim.

In its buildings, the Gallery maintains and develops a contemporary art collection, operates an international artist residency programme and presents a diverse programme of exhibitions and events. Through publications and other programmes that extend beyond its walls, the Gallery also aims to foster the development and interpretation of contemporary art within contemporary culture.

The Gallery is managed through the New Plymouth District Council and is further supported by the Govett-Brewster Foundation. The Gallery and the Council also have a partnership with the Len Lye Foundation to manage the collection and archive of Len Lye. The Director of the Gallery is also a Trustee of the Len Lye Foundation by virtue of office.

Recently the Council and Len Lye Foundation formed a new partnership with the aim of developing the Len Lye Centre in New Plymouth, a new stand alone art museum dedicated to Len Lye to be co-located with the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery. The partnership is manifest through the Len Lye Committee of the Council, which has equal membership from the Council and the Foundation.

The incumbent Gallery Director Greg Burke is due to leave in August to take up the position of Director of The Power Plant in Toronto.
