The Institut d’Art Contemporain (IAC), located in Villeurbanne, in the Rhône-Alpes region of France, sprang out of a merger between the Nouveau Musée / Institut and the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain. It is one of the foremost institutions on the French art scene. The IAC is currently seeking a new Director.

Job Description
The future Director will be responsible for the general management of the IAC, with its 15 staff members, and notably:

1) the elaboration and implementation of plans for developing:
an artistic and cultural policy that will reflect the specificity of the institution, while performing the following core tasks: organising an artistic and cultural programme of a high standard for the art centre; pursuing an ambitious acquisition policy for the FRAC Rhône-Alpes collection, and overseeing the institution’s artistic involvement in the life of the Rhône-Alpes region and beyond;
the IAC’s activities in France and abroad;
partnerships on the regional, national and international level; and the staging, in other countries, of exhibitions produced by the IAC;
sponsorship research.

2) the co-ordination and administration of the institute:
from a budgetary, human and technical viewpoint (2005 budget), in close liaison with the President. The General Secretary will assist the Director in this task.

Profile
A proven track record in managing a similar-sized cultural establishment.
An in-depth knowledge of the visual arts both in France and on the wider international scene.
Familiarity with public- and private-sector financing networks.
An aptitude for personal relations, and negotiating skills.
Leadership qualities.
A high level of written and oral communication.
An excellent command of English and (for non-French candidates) French.

Remuneration Package
To be determined on the basis of qualifications and experience. The candidate’s expected salary should be mentioned in the application.

The IAC is an association which adheres to the Convention Collective de l’Animation (general agreement on cultural affairs).

Shortlisted candidates (selected on the basis of a CV and an accompanying letter) will be asked to present their project, firstly in written form, and then before a panel of adjudicators.
