Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art is a private contemporary art museum which produces temporary exhibitions of international art. The last few years, the museum has exhibited artists such as Yoko Ono, Jeff Koons, Jeff Wall and Olafur Eliasson. Along with the exhibitions, comprehensive and nuanced catalogues are published, which reflect the artists works through insightful texts written by well-known art theorists, philosophers and authors.
The American philosopher Arthur Danto has contributed with the essay Banality and Celebration in the Jeff Koons catalogue, and Rem Koolhaas and Hans Ulrich Obrist initiate interesting themes in a longer interview with Jeff Koons.
In the Jeff Wall catalogue, we find several of Walls own texts, excerpts from a discussion between the artist and Els Barents, as well as an interview with the French art critic and curator Jean-François Chevrier.
Olafur Eliassons art is discussed in relation to concepts such as place and room by the philosopher Paul Virillo, and the catalogue also contains several of the artists own texts.
The catalogue for Yoko Ono covers a wide spectre of her artistic legacy, and contains, among other things, a featured essay by the curator and director of Palais de Tokyo, Nicolas Bourriaud, who elucidates the continuity of Yoko Onos art.
The catalogues are thoroughly illustrated and designed in an easily accessible format. All the catalogues are available in English.
