Marina Abramovic: The Biography of Biographies
Published by Charta, www.chartaartbooks.it
Distributed by D.A.P, Paperback, 128 pages, 6.75 x 9.5 inches,

While embodying all the fundamental stages of Marina Abramovic’s life and work, The Biography of Biographies reveals an artist who has deeply affected the art of our time and who possesses an extraordinary ability to revisit and reinterpret her own story through the use of performance as a form of visual art. This new “staging” of The Biography – called The Biography Remix – is carried out in collaboration with Michael Laub, a theater director who has maintained a close involvement with Abramovic’s work and shares with her a deep personal trust. Abramovic and Laub have developed a new and sometimes indefinable relationship between visual art, performance, and theater–a uniquely direct relationship that builds work of great simplicity and beauty that has the power to move, surprise, and entertain.
Hans Ulrich Obrist: DO IT
Published by e-flux/Revolver
Distributed by D.A.P., Hardcover, 370 pages, 6.5 x 9.5 inches

The Do It book contains artworks by 166 international artists in the form of do-it-yourself text instructions to be completed by the reader. Based on the traveling exhibition and e-flux online project curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, the book offers comprehensive material on the groundbreaking show. Do It began in 1993 with a discussion among friends Christian Boltanski, Bertrand Lavier, and Huns Ulrich Obrist. All three had been interested in various forms of instructional procedures since the early 1970s, and that evening they spoke of the instructions contained within their own work. From this discussion arose the idea of an exhibition of do-it-yourself descriptions and procedural instructions. Since 1993, the exhibition has taken place in venues in more than 40 cities worldwide, including Palo Alto, Pittsburg, Calgary, Atlanta, Toronto, Andover, Glasgow, Reykjavik, Helsinki, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Edmonton, Paris, Mexico City, and Costa Rica.

This publication was made possible with generous support by Art Basel.

The October 2004 edition of Interview magazine will mark 35 years of the award winning journal founded by pop art pioneer Andy Warhol. In that time it has developed from the newsletter of the Studio 54 set into the definitive guide to the most significant stars of today and tomorrow. Adopting an original format the magazine uses recordings of questions and answer sessions to reveal information about celebrities, politicians, filmmakers, musicians and literary figures. The questions are often put by another celebrity and the answers are revealing, intimate and candid. Alongside the interviews are photographs by the creme de la creme of celebrity and fashion photography – Robert Mapplethorpe, Francesco Scavullo, Herb Ritts, Ara Gallant, Peter Beard, Bruce Weber, Perry Berenson and others – who are given the opportunity to make some of their most challenging and original work. For 35 years Interview has offered an original perspective on the sexy, fascinating and funny people who are shaping popular culture. This collection of 7 books presents the first catalogue of the first decade of that extraordinary history and like the rare, early issues of the magazine is bound to become a valuable collector’s item.
